Mario De Clercq (born March 5, 1966 in Oudenaarde ) is a former Belgian cyclist.
In his active career he has won three races on the road. De Clercq was far more successful in his specialty cyclocross . Here he became world champion in 1998, 1999 and 2002 and won a total of four other medals at world championships. In 2001 and 2002 he became Belgian champion and in 1999 he won the overall World Cup.
He turned pro with Team Buckler in late 1990 and ended his career at Mr.Bookmaker.com-Palmans in 2004. De Clercq is now the sporting director of the Sunweb Pro Job team .
In connection with the doping affair surrounding Johan Museeuw , a house search was carried out at De Clercq in 2003 and he was charged with possession of growth hormones and the EPO preparation Aranesp. In December 2008, a court in Kortrijk found him guilty. He was therefore sentenced to ten months probation and payment of 15,000 euros.
