Niels Albert

Niels Albert (born February 5, 1986 in Bonheiden ) is a former Belgian cyclocross and road cyclist.

Athletic career

Niels Albert became Belgian junior cyclocross champion in the 2003/2004 season and won the junior race of the World Championship in Pont-Château . He also came in second at the U23 European Championship, which he won the following season. In the U23 class he was two more times Belgian champion and once European champion in the following two years. At the world championship he won the bronze medal in 2006, and in 2007 he was runner-up. Albert has also won several U23 World Cup races. From 2006 he was under contract with the Belgian Continental Team Palmans Collstrop .

On May 19, 2014 Albert ended his athletic career because of massive heart problems.
