Vito Di Tano

Vito Di Tano (born September 23, 1954 in Monopoli ) is a former Italian cyclist and world champion in cycling .

Athletic career

Di Tano started his career as a road rider after he started cycling in 1969. He was a member of the Italian national team and started in 1974 in the Yugoslavia Tour , which he finished third. Later he turned to the cross-country sport and specialized in cross-country races, in which he achieved his most significant successes. In 1979 he became world champion for the first time on an extremely difficult track in Saccolongo , where he had just finished third in the national championships , mainly thanks to strong mileage . In 1986 he was again world champion ahead of the Belgian Ivan Messelis. In total, he placed seven times among the top ten drivers in thirteen starts at the UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships . 1980, 1982-1984 and 1986-1987 he was also the Italian champion in cyclo-cross racing, he won six national titles. Di Tano started for the GS Guerciotti club. In total, he had 176 victories in his career.
