Norbert Dedeckere

Norbert Dedeckere (born November 23, 1948 in Stene ( Ostend ), † January 17, 2015 in Brugge ) was a Belgian cyclist and world champion in cycling .

Athletic career

His greatest sporting success was winning the title at the UCI World Championships in cyclo- cross racing as an amateur in 1972 in Prague in front of the local Miloš Fišera . Two years later he was also able to win the title of Belgian champion before his long-time rival Robert Vermeire . In addition to his title, he won several medals in national championships. From 1969 to 1979 he started nine times in the world championships in his specialty. In 1970 he won the bronze medal. More than 200 victories in cyclo-cross races were on his list of successes at the end of his career. Since 2016 there has been a 30-kilometer mountain bike route in Middelkerke that bears his name.
