action

As in the biblical story in the Book of Esther , Queen Vashti refuses to obey her husband, the Persian King Xerxes I , and is thereupon banished from court. Xerxes is looking for a woman in the Persian Empire to take Vashti's place as queen. He finds her in the orphan Hadassa, who is raised by her uncle, Mordechai . Hadassa, who fears that she will be discriminated against as a Jew , has promised Mordechai to call herself Esther from now on. In the palace she learns that Haman , the king's chief chamberlain, is planning to exterminate all Jews in the empire. With her charm she manages to uncover the plan. Esther has a chain in which she shows the star of David in the light to the king and Haman. To commemorate this event, Jews still celebrate Purim every year .
