Location of Oostkapelle in the municipality of Veere |
Oostkapelle ( Zeeland Oôskappel ) is a village in the municipality of Veere on the Walcheren peninsula in the Dutch province of Zeeland . On January 1, 2017, 2,325 inhabitants were determined, making it one of the larger towns in the municipality. The village consists of a small built-up center and many old farms. In the north of Oostkapelle there is a large holiday home area with holiday homes, campsites and hotels. The area is roughly twice the size of the original site.
The most important sight is the Protestant parish church with its monumental tower from the 14th century, which can be climbed in the summer months.
Oostkapelle owes its name to a chapel that must have stood here in earlier times, together with another chapel that was probably where today's Westkapelle is located.
After the Second World War , Oostkapelle, like Domburg and Zoutelande, developed into a seaside resort.
