Aagtekerke ( Zeeland Ægte ) is a village in the municipality of Veere in Zeeland . On January 1, 2017, the place had 1,535 inhabitants. Aagtkerke is three kilometers from Domburg , six kilometers from Westkapelle and four kilometers from Oostkapelle .

Aagtkerke is not by the sea, but in the interior of Walcheren . However, it also offers its holiday guests some accommodation options on the beach, for example guest rooms, holiday homes or the possibility of camping. In 1999, 143,700 overnight stays were counted.

Aagtkerke was named after Saint Agatha , who was the patron saint of the place and today's Protestant parish church until the Reformation . Until about 1572 there was a Cistercian convent south of AAGENKKE , which the Kloosterweg reminds us of today . Aagtkerke is nicknamed hett geitedurp in the surrounding villages , as goat breeding used to have a certain importance here.

From the 14th to the 16th century, the Johanniter maintained the Commandery of Sint-Jan ten Heere here .

300 meters south of the village center there is a wooden grain mill from 1801, which replaced the old mill from 1616, which was destroyed by a storm at the time. It was in operation until 1955 and has been owned by the municipality since 1998. It is a six-sided Zeeland ground sail windmill.

About two thirds of the population belong to the Gereformeerde Gemeente . In addition to the Gereformeerde Gemeente, the Hervormde Gemeente also has a church in the village, which was built in 1625.
