The Opština Debar ( Macedonian Општина Дебар ; Albanian Komuna e Dibrës ) is an Opština of North Macedonia and is located in the far west of the country on the border with Albania . The capital is the city of Debar .
geography
With an area of 145.67 km², the Opština is one of the smaller in the country. It borders in the north on Mavrovo and Rostuša , in the east on Drugovo , in the southeast on Debarca and Struga , in the south on Centar Župa and Lake Debar and in the west on the Republic of Albania ( Qark Dibra ). The Opština Debar is part of the Statistical Region Southwest .
The westernmost point of Macedonia is near the village of Konjari.
In the 2002 census carried out for the Opština Debar 19,542 inhabitants were determined. The population density was thus 134.15 inhabitants / km². Ethnically speaking, 11,348 people identified themselves as Albanians (58.07%), 3,911 as Macedonians (20.01%), 2,684 as Turks (13.73%) and 1,599 reported another ethnic group (8.19%).
