The Orascom Development Holding AG (ODH), based in Altdorf in Switzerland is in urban planning active international group of companies. It was founded in early 2008 by Samih Sawiris as a stock corporation under Swiss law and serves as the parent company for all previous operational activities, in particular Orascom Hotels and Development SAE , which was founded in 1989

Orascom Development Holding emerged in early 2008 from Orascom Hotels and Development , which was founded in 1989 . With the initiation of the Andermatt project in Switzerland, OD Holding expanded from its region of origin to Central Europe. For this purpose, the group's headquarters were relocated to Altdorf in Switzerland in March 2008. In May 2008, the new company was floated on the stock exchange through an IPO . The IPO also included an exchange offer for the previous shareholders of Orascom Hotels and Development , which will henceforth be run as a subsidiary of OD Holding.

Field of activity

The area of ​​activity includes the real estate, hotels, town management and other activities. The company operates mainly in Egypt and the Middle East , but is aiming for international expansion.

The main activity is the development of entire cities through the purchase of land and the construction of residential and commercial properties . The Orascom Group will remain the owner of all commercial properties. The construction projects also include all urban planning activities, from desalination plants and roads to luxury properties, as well as from production in our own brick factory to the construction of staff accommodation. The Egyptian city of El Gouna is one of the most important development areas to date . In March 2010, Orascom Development announced plans to develop an affordable housing project in the Romanian city of Constanța . It is the first project of its kind outside of Egypt and the fourth integrated project in Europe.

OD Holding is the largest owner of hotel rooms in Egypt. In addition to several own brands, the hotels are run by international hotel chains. The company has a total of 24 hotels in all hotel categories with a total of 6,025 rooms.

Town Management encompasses the maintenance of the built cities as well as the daily maintenance of the local infrastructure such as power generation , desalination plants, schools and hospitals , the maintenance of roads, golf courses and marinas .

Further activities include a 51 percent stake in the Garranah Touristic Group . Garranah owns seven Nile cruise ships with more than 360 cabins, 47 buses and two five-star hotels with a capacity of 598 rooms on Makadi Bay on the Red Sea. OD Holding is also active in the field of real estate financing through its subsidiary Tamweel .

In May 2007, Andermatt Alpine Destination Company AG (today Andermatt Swiss Alps AG ) was founded with headquarters in Andermatt ( UR ) and a branch in Altdorf (UR), a subsidiary of Orascom Development Holding AG. Under the brand “Andermatt - Swiss Alpine Destination”, it develops and realizes “the first integrated tourism resort in the Swiss Alps” with several hotels, holiday homes, apartments and luxury villas, restaurants and shops, a sports and leisure center and an 18-hole Golf course. In the interests of state policy , the Federal Council exempted the building project from the approval requirement under the Federal Act on the Acquisition of Land by Persons Abroad ( Lex Koller ) by the Federal Council , following a corresponding application by Orascom . At the beginning of 2019 it was announced that ODH would acquire the majority of the shares in the next two years.
