action

Helena has been alone on the interstellar spaceship "Orbiter 9" all her life . Her parents, whom she only knows through video recordings, committed suicide in order to save the scarce oxygen and enable her daughter to survive. Helena is educated by the computer Rebecca and flies through space in the direction of Alpha Centauri until the technician Alex arrives in the spaceship because he has received her distress signal . Although Helena had no personal contact by then, she falls in love with Alex and spends the night with him.

Alex leaves Orbiter 9 after a few days, walks through a hallway with heating pipes, takes an elevator to the surface of the earth and is in a forest clearing. He drives a car to the main building of the research facility, which runs spaceship simulations in preparation for space flights to Celeste, a habitable planet around Alpha Centauri. Alex reports to Hugo, the head of the research facility, who in turn reports to global director Katherine.

Alex tells his therapist Silvia about his feelings about Helena. Alex returns to Helena without a spacesuit and tells her the truth about the simulation. He manipulates the video recordings so that nobody notices their escape. He takes Helena into his apartment and shows her the world. When she has a rash on her shoulder, Alex takes her to see Xiao, a doctor friend of hers. Xiao notices that her skin has never been exposed to sunlight and plans to share the test results with them later.

When Alex is at work, Helena discovers documents relating to ten spaceship simulations. She also discovers her parents' address in the documents. She visits her parents, who tell her that they are not her biological parents and that the ten spacemen are clones of long-dead people. The man reports to the research facility that Helena is with him, but the woman allows her to escape. Helena returns to Alex and they both visit Silva, who offered them help. Hugo has taken up the pursuit of the two and shoots Silvia. Helena and Alex flee until Helena is finally caught. Katherine orders Hugo to kill Helena as a failed experiment.

Alex returns to the research facility and informs Hugo of Xiao's test results: Helena is pregnant. Hugo and Katherine decide to let the experiment continue and watch a real birth and family grow up in Orbiter 9. Helena has a condition for returning to Orbiter 9 ...

A few years later, a young woman leaves Orbiter 9 and is greeted by the aged Hugo. She looks up to the sky and sees the first spaceships launching towards Celeste.

“Orbiter 9 starts as a compelling sci-fi piece, then the plot kicks in and it becomes dull. It's a shame because the story has the heft to carry a better movie but it's ultimately another misfire for Netflix. "

“Orbiter 9 starts out as an addicting science fiction piece, then the plot breaks in and it gets boring. It's a shame because the story has what it takes to be a better movie, but ultimately it's another misfire for Netflix. "
