description

inflorescence

The arm-bloomed orchid is a tuberous geophyte that is 10-25 centimeters high. The stems have 4–10 leaves, 3–7 of which are clustered at the bottom in a rosette. The basal leaves are oblong, ovate, 4–13 inches long and 8–18 millimeters wide and unspotted, dark green and shiny. The top stem leaf is long-sheathed, 2.5–6 inches long and does not reach the bottom flowers. The inflorescence is arm-flowered, cylindrical, 3–7 cm long and loosely 2–12-flowered. The bracts are lanceolate, light green, about as long as and adjacent to the ovary. The lateral bracts are 10-15 millimeters long and 6-10 millimeters wide, light yellow, obliquely egg-shaped, barely pointed and almost vertical. The petals are helmet-shaped, 7-10 millimeters long and 3.4-6 millimeters wide. The lip is rounded in outline, divided into three, serrated on the edges, strongly curved backwards along the center line, yolk yellow, in the center with numerous small brown-red dots. The lateral lobes of the lip are semi-elliptical, the middle lobe is 6–10 millimeters wide and weakly divided. The spur is 14–20 millimeters long, 2–3.5 millimeters wide, cylindrical, arching and ascending and about one and a half times as long as the ovary.

The flowering period is March to May.

The chromosome number is 2n = 42.
