The order has a very close relationship with the Sauerland Schützenbund and the Federation of Historical German Rifle Brotherhoods .

On December 10, 1979, the Mother Order , Edele Eed-Broedcrschap van de Souvereine Orde van de Rode Leeuw van Limburg en de Heiligc Sebastianus was founded in Maaseik (Belgium) . He received his ecclesiastical recognition from the bishops of Hasselt (Belgium) and Roermond (Netherlands).

In 1982 the affiliation to the Order of Saint Sebastianus of France and Navarre from the year 825 was completed. This order was established around 825, once to protect the relic of the martyr in the Abbey of St. Médard near Soissons , but then also to protect the pilgrims who came there.
