The Brotherhood of the Red Lion of Limburg and Saint Sebastian is a congregation based in the district of Mayen-Koblenz , Rhineland-Palatinate . It was built on December 13, 1994 by the Bishop of Trier , Hermann Josef Spital .

The patron saint of the order is St. Sebastian . The German Commandery of the Order was established on December 13, 1994 by the Bishop of Trier, Hermann Josef Spital. The German Commandery is headed by the ltd. Grand Commander Karl-Josef Häfner, who succeeded Hans-Josef Koggel on April 3, 2011 . The chapter church of the brotherhood has been the St. Sebastian Church in Sankt Sebastian (on the Rhine) since it was founded . The Grand Prior of the Brotherhood is Stephan Schwarz, Prior Walter Bucher. As of 2009 the brotherhood has 70 members.
The motto of the order is “For Faith, Customs and Home”. Further tasks are to maintain and deepen the spiritual and spiritual values of the Christian faith. Every member of the order tries to achieve this goal through Christian brotherhood and charity in word and deed. Personal care for old, sick and people in difficult life situations as well as the support of social institutions are in the foreground. Each member pays a certain annual fee as well as any other donations. Five members of the so-called chapter, that is the inner board, meet once a year to discuss which people or which projects should be supported.
New members who are accepted only once a year on Laetare Sunday in the middle of Lent must be proposed and the pastor of the Catholic home parish must agree to the admission. The order has a very close relationship with the Sauerland Schützenbund and the Federation of Historical German Rifle Brotherhoods .

On December 10, 1979, the Mother Order , Edele Eed-Broedcrschap van de Souvereine Orde van de Rode Leeuw van Limburg en de Heiligc Sebastianus was founded in Maaseik (Belgium) . He received his ecclesiastical recognition from the bishops of Hasselt (Belgium) and Roermond (Netherlands).
In 1982 the affiliation to the Order of Saint Sebastianus of France and Navarre from the year 825 was completed. This order was established around 825, once to protect the relic of the martyr in the Abbey of St. Médard near Soissons , but then also to protect the pilgrims who came there.
