Oriol Maspons Casades (born 1928 in Barcelona ; † August 12, 2013 there ) was a Catalan photographer .

biography

Born into a wealthy family, he initially photographed post-war Spain. That changed with a stay in France. Between 1955 and 1957 he lived in Paris and worked for the magazines Paris Match , Elle and Boccacio. There he met Henri Cartier-Bresson , Brassaï and Robert Doisneau , which visibly influenced his later work.

Back in Barcelona he opened a studio with Julio Ubiña. He mainly worked as a fashion and advertising photographer . He also specialized in portraits and photographed important personalities of his time, such as Salvador Dalí , Marcel Duchamp , Antoni Tapies , Gary Cooper and Audrey Hepburn . In the 1960s and 1970s he became a member of the avant-garde group Gauche Divine , where he made the acquaintance of Miguel Delibes and Camilo José Cela .

Influenced by the new and modern perspective, he took photos of the hippie movement in Ibiza and started his pin-up series . He played with innocence and sexuality and showed a new spontaneous type of advertising in these photos.
