List of grape varieties |
The white wine variety Ortrugo is an autochthonous variety of Northern Italy . It may come from the Oltrepò Pavese region or from Emilia-Romagna . In any case, the numerous synonyms suggest a wide distribution. The synonym Trebbiano di Tortona could be a reference to the place Tortona in Piedmont . Ortrugo had almost completely disappeared in the late 1960s. However, it was newly selected and promoted from old vines. Today there are a number of producers again and since the 1980s there has also been a separate Denominazione di origine controllata (DOC for short) for the wine, the Colli Piacentini .
The wines are from pale straw yellow to greenish shimmering color and have a delicate natural carbonic acidity . They are therefore often produced as frizzante and recently also as sparkling wine .

Ampelographic varietal characteristics
In ampelography , the habitus is described as follows:
- The shoot tip is open. She is hairy white wool. The tip of the shoot is colored white-green, with a red-purple tinge. The young leaves are lightly hairy and of a yellow-greenish color.
- The large leaves are three- to five-lobed and hardly curved. The stem bay is open in a U-shape. The blade is bluntly serrated. The teeth are medium in size compared to other varieties.
- The conical to cylindrical grape is large, mostly shouldered and with dense berries. The round berries are medium-sized and greenish-yellow in color. The taste of the berries is neutral.
The vigorous grape variety ripens about 30 days after the Gutedel and is therefore considered to ripen very late. It is generally disease-resistant, but due to its dense berries it is considered susceptible to raw rot .
