The Ortstock is a double peak in the Glarus Alps in Switzerland and the local mountain of the car-free resort of Braunwald . The western, rear summit ( 2716.5 m above sea level ) is a popular excursion destination because of its easy accessibility from Braunwald, while the front summit ( 2703 m above sea level ) is reserved for experienced mountaineers.
Location and surroundings
The Ortstock lies on the canton border of Schwyz and Glarus and is connected to the Jegerstöcken towards the southwest. The Höch Tower is located in the northwest .
Due to its largely free-standing location, the Ortstock offers a great panoramic view of , among other things, Braunwald, the Glarner Grosstal, the Limmerensee and the Klausenpass .
Routes to the summit
The easiest route leads from Braunwald over the Braunwaldalp or Brächalp to the Bergetenseeli and over Bärentritt to the Lauchboden. Following the tracks, you now climb to Furggele and from there to the southeast to the summit.
