As one of the first employees of Theodor Herzl , Max Nordau and Achad Ha'ams , Thon was decisively involved in the preparation and implementation of the first Zionist congresses , where he also appeared prominently as a speaker.
The then 27-year-old had taken over the post of rabbi of the liberal temple synagogue in Krakow in 1897 . In Poland he took part in the publication of Przyszłość , the first Zionist magazine in Polish. In addition, Thon regularly published scientific treatises in the Hebrew-language cultural magazine Haschiloach, published by Achad Ha'am , including those on Herbert Spencer , whose sociological essays he translated into Hebrew.
1919 Thon was in the Constituent Sejm voted and participated in 1922 in the Sejm to 1931 active on the Polish domestic politics. Until a few years before his death in 1936, Thon was also President of the District Committee for West Galicia of the Zionist Organization and, until recently, a member of the Zionist Action Committee.
