Oskar Meggeneder

Oskar Meggeneder (* 1945 ) is an Austrian social and health scientist .

From 1995 he was Deputy Director of the Upper Austrian Regional Health Insurance Fund and from 1998 President of the Austrian Society for Health Sciences and Public Health and Vice President of the Institute for Health Planning.

Live and act

After a double apprenticeship as a chemist and photo dealer at the beginning of the 1960s, working as a commercial clerk and internal and external further education as a technician , he attended the federal high school for professionals and graduated with distinction in 1976. He then studied sociology , social economy and political science at the universities of Linz and Salzburg, and learned several languages. In 1982 he received his doctorate as a social and economic scientist and in 1995 with distinction.

From 1981 Meggeneder was a research assistant at the Institute for Social and Economic Sciences in Linz, and in the 1980s he carried out his research at both domestic and foreign universities. He held lectureships at the universities of Linz, Salzburg and Vienna .

He can refer to numerous publications as an author, co-author and editor and has published scientific articles in domestic and foreign journals.

In 1989 and 1990 he headed the Humanization, Technology and Environment department at the Austrian Federation of Trade Unions in Vienna. From November 1990 he worked for the Upper Austrian Regional Health Insurance Fund, where he worked on the organizational analysis and development concept of the GKK 2000. He was responsible for setting up the health promotion and preventive medicine departments and later controlling and reporting. He introduced corporate health promotion in Austria. From 1994 he was head of the Austrian contact point for the European Network Workplace Health Promotion and in 1995 he became deputy director of the Upper Austrian regional health insurance fund . From 1998 he acted as President of the Austrian Society for Health Sciences and Public Health and as Vice President of the Institute for Health Planning. Since 2006 chairman of the board of self-help Upper Austria - umbrella organization of self-help groups in the health sector.
