Emil Oskar Samter ( April 23, 1858 in Posen - January 12, 1933 in Koenigsberg ). University professor and director of the surgical department of the Königsberg Municipal Hospital

Life

As the son of the medical councilor Joseph Samter, of Jewish religious affiliation, Oskar attended Samter in Friedrich-Wilhelms-Gymnasium (Posen) . After graduating from high school, studied medicine at the University of Wroclaw . He stayed in Breslau as an assistant doctor until 1881. He was married to a daughter of the dermatologist Julius Caspary (1838–1911). With her he was active both politically as a member of the national liberal German People's Party and culturally, e.g. B. as a board member of the Friends of the Symphony Concerts (KAZ)

Professional background

During his internship in Wroclaw, Samter was promoted to Dr. med. PhD. This was followed by two years at the Gdansk Municipal Hospital , and further training in Leipzig and Munich in 1884/85 . From 1887–1890 he worked as an assistant doctor at the University Surgical Clinic in Königsberg under Karl Schönborn and Johann von Mikulicz-Radecki . From 1898 to 1921 he was the chief physician at the external department of the municipal hospitals, in the meantime completed his habilitation (April 8, 1891) and was director of this municipal hospital as a professor and professor from 1921 to 1926. Since Samter was not allowed to treat private inpatients according to his contract, he founded a private clinic in the street Hintertragheim, which was also occupied by other doctors (Dr. Peschties). In 1926 the private clinic was sold to the gynecologist Dr. Kurt Hennig sold. Although he left the service in 1926, his name appears in the "German credit agency" created by the National Socialists. Due to his death, which is given elsewhere as “early 1931”, the entry could no longer lead to his disaster. He was remembered by his staff as an extremely well-read and popular surgeon in hospitals.

Scientific work

His scientific publications deal with surgical technology and especially new surgical methods in the field of orthopedics, as well as especially facial plastic, e.g. B. after war injuries. His essay has been handed down in the "East Prussian Doctor Family".
