The Osterwiese is a folk festival that takes place every year before, during and after Easter in Bremen . With over a million visitors annually on 16 days and over 200  showmen , the event is one of the largest German folk festivals. The folk festival was held in Bremen- Gröpelingen for the first time in 1928 , then changed its location several times and has been taking place regularly on the Bremer Bürgerweide in the Findorff district since 1946 . The date of the event, which is in spring , is flexible due to the connection to the Easter date , whereby the Easter meadow is always closed on Good Friday .

history

According to the current organizer, the Bremen Markets Association and the City of Bremen, the Osterwiese is a "still 'young' festival" compared to the much older and larger Bremer Freimarkt . It took place for the first time in 1928 as the then so-called "Easter Festival" in Halmerweg in the Bremen district of Gröpelingen. In 1933 it was named "Osterwiese". During the Second World War there was no Easter meadow from 1941 to 1945. After the war, from April 12 to 22, 1946, there was the first Easter meadow on the Bremer Bürgerweide, where it has been taking place regularly since then and where the Bremen Freimarkt is also held every autumn . Before this time, the location of the spring folk festival changed several times:

The Easter meadow begins one week before Good Friday on a Friday and ends one week after Easter on a Sunday. During this time it is open daily from 1 p.m. to 11 p.m. and closed on Good Friday. On the first Friday there will be a firework display over the Bürgerweide. According to the city of Bremen, over a million visitors come to the Osterwiese every year.

A few stalls with consumer goods such as cooking pots, household knives or brooms and brushes , mostly on the edge of the fairground along the Theodor-Heuss-Allee , are reminiscent of the earlier tradition of the general store .

The main entrances to the Osterwiese take place u. a.
