history

Until around 2000, the north side of the station and the Freimarkt could only be reached through the very narrow Lloyd tunnel to the side and the Gustav Deetjen tunnel. Around this time the passage in the main station was expanded and the north exit to the Bürgerweide was created, equipped with a spacious vestibule. The existing area was made into a square and the Lloyd tunnel closed. The eastern building as part of the Lloyd train station was demolished and a hotel was built on this site. A building complex with two inner courtyards for shops and offices was built to the west.
