description
Part of the area is in the area of the former Vogelsang military training area , south of the Urfttalsperre . The forests at the dam are covered with low-growing sessile oak forests. The herbaceous layer consists of species such as wavy hair , sage gamma Santander , meadow Cow-wheat and blueberry from the typical species inventory of the acidic oak and beech forests . In the eastern part of the area, a small-scale maple canyon forest with an occurrence of silver leaf grows on a steeply exposed slope to the north . The approximately 74 hectares of oak trees make the area an excellent refuge for communities of near-natural oak trees. The extensively used oat meadows , poor grassland and near-natural streams and rock formations also underline the high-quality character of the area. In the network of the state-wide biotope network of near-natural oak stocks, the area is a valuable composite and stepping stone biotope in functional connection with the nearby Eifel National Park .
