Career

Ottavio Bugatti began his career in 1950 with Seregno Calcio , with whose team the goalkeeper gained his first experience in professional football. A year later he was signed by SPAL Ferrara and completed numerous games for SPAL Ferrara in the following two seasons in the top division, Serie A. The following year Bugatti received his first line-up for the Italian selection , for which he made his debut on July 16, 1952 in the qualifying game for the 1952 Olympics against the United States. In the 8-0 win over the Americans, the goalkeeper was also without a goal. In the first round game that followed five days later against the eventual Olympic champion Hungary, the Italians had no chance and lost 3-0.

After this event, the goalkeeper was not considered for the national team for the next five years. A year later he joined the SSC Napoli , where he was the undisputed goalkeeper and played a total of 256 league games for Napoli in the following eight years. In 1957 and 1958 he received five more missions in the national team. Bugatti failed to convince and received ten goals and only won the game against Portugal on December 22, 1957.

In 1961 he moved to Inter Milan , but was only brought in as a substitute goalkeeper and could not prevail against his rival Lorenzo Buffon . Even after his departure two years later, he was no longer able to build on his performance in Naples and completed his last league game on January 10, 1965 against Catania Calcio .

Although he had hardly had any match practice, he won the Italian championship with Inter Milan in 1963 and 1965, the European Cup in 1964 and 1965 and the World Cup in the last two years .
