The Ottenstein plateau is located in the Weserbergland Schaumburg-Hameln nature park around the central and eponymous village of Ottenstein between Bodenwerder in the east-northeast and Bad Pyrmont in the west-northwest. The Bad Pyrmont districts of Kleinenberg, Großenberg, Eichenborn , Baarsen and Neersen, the Emmerthal district of Lüntorf , the Hehlener districts of Brökel and Hohe, the Ottensteiner district of Lichtenhagen and the municipality of Vahlbruch are located in the landscape . At the beginning of 2004, twelve districts started the Agricultural Structural Development Planning (AEP) Ottensteiner Plateau . Every year since 2005, during the Rapeseed Blossom Festival, a rapeseed blossom queen has been elected to represent the region. An oil mill was built in Ottenstein to extract fuel from rape . There are hiking trails between the places.
