Ottmar Schmidt

Ottmar August Albert Schmidt (born May 8, 1835 in Heimbach , † November 28, 1903 in Stuttgart ) was a German pharmacist and professor .

Life

Schmidt attended the Latin school in Schwäbisch Hall . From 1850 he studied in Geislingen the pharmacy . He then worked as an assistant in Langenthal , Stuttgart and Wiesbaden . From 1857 he studied pharmacy at the polytechnic school in Stuttgart , where he passed the state examination in 1858. Then he became Hermann Fehling's assistant . In 1861 he moved to Göttingen . There he was promoted to Dr. phil. PhD. He then bought a pharmacy in Forchheim , which he ran until 1872. Then he was appointed professor of physics , chemistry and pharmacy at the veterinary school in Stuttgart in 1872. In this position he worked until 1902. He was a pharmacist visitator, examinator for pharmacy and food chemistry and pharmaceutical consultant and advisor to the government.

Schmidt dealt with the investigation of phytonutrients , especially salicin , santonin , helicin and phloretin . His work appeared mainly in the yearbook for practical pharmacy and in the annals of chemistry . Schmidt was also involved in pharmaceutical legislation and has been awarded numerous medals.
