Otto Ackermann (conductor)
Otto Ackermann (born October 5, 1909 in Bucharest ; † March 9, 1960 in Wabern near Bern ) was a Swiss conductor born in Romania .
Ackermann studied at the Royal Academy in Bucharest, then with George Szell and Julius Prüwer at the Berlin Music Academy. After stints as Kapellmeister in Düsseldorf (with Walter Bruno Iltz ), Brno, Bern, Zurich, Lucerne and Vienna ( Volksoper ), he worked from 1954 as GMD at the Cologne City Theaters , from 1959 as musical director at the City Theater in Zurich .
Ackermann, who also appeared as a guest conductor in many European cities, made a name for himself in particular as a conductor of operettas (of which numerous recordings for EMI- Electrola testify) and Mozart operas . Ackermann's artistic estate is in the Swiss National Sound Archives in Lugano.
Ackermann was buried in the Grindelwald cemetery .
