Otto Adalbert Posse (born July 29, 1847 in Weißensee ; † November 13, 1921 in Dresden ) was a German historian and archivist .

After working at the Royal State Archives in Marburg and the Grand Ducal State Archives in Weimar, the pupil of Leopold von Ranke and Georg Waitz moved to the Main State Archives in Dresden in 1875 , where he devoted himself in particular to the publication of the Codex diplomaticus Saxoniae regiae . In Marburg Posse became a member of the Masonic Lodge Marc Aurel zum Flaming Stern in 1872 . He retired in 1919.

Today's Medievalists know Posse for the processing of the German ruler's seals, which is still unsurpassed . His son Hans Posse was an art historian and Hitler's special commissioner for the construction of the “ Führermuseum ” in Linz.
