Otto Basler (literary critic)

Otto Basler (born December 16, 1902 in Kölliken ; † July 12, 1984 ) was a Swiss literary critic .

Basler, a full-time teacher at the Oberschule von Burg ( Canton Aargau ), wrote reviews , essays and portraits of authors for various Swiss newspapers and magazines. He gave literary lectures on the radio. In 1962 he was made an honorary citizen of Burg.

Basler was friends with Hermann Hesse and Thomas Mann . He corresponded with Erika , Golo , Heinrich , Katia and Klaus Mann , as well as with authors such as Carl Jacob Burckhardt , Siegfried Unseld and Jakob Wassermann .

Basler's extensive correspondence decline is now in the Swiss Literary Archives and the German Literature Archive in Marbach .
