Otto Blanck (born March 4, 1912 in Rüstringen , now Wilhelmshaven , † May 12, 1982 in Oldenburg ) was a German painter .

Life

Otto Blanck's father, Wilhelm Blanck, was a ship's carpenter from Robe / Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . He had come to Wilhelmshaven to work at the imperial shipyard .

Otto Blanck completed an apprenticeship as a painter from 1926 to 1930. From 1937 he worked as a theater painter at the Wilhelmshaven Theater. He went with Heinz Janszen and other painter friends on a journey through Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Rügen and to Robe , where his father was born. From October 1937 he was an excavation draftsman at the state office for marshland research in Wilhelmshaven.

On June 10, 1940, he was drafted into the Wehrmacht and was stationed at the Oldenburg Kreyenbrück site . Until 1941 he received about 1 year of work leave from the Wehrmacht and again worked at the Wurten Research Center.

Later he was employed in the 6th Division in Russia. He painted murals on the Black Sea and in Russia. Shortly before the collapse of the 6th Division, he was flown to the hospital in Hamburg because of typhus / typhus. He spent Christmas 1942 on convalescent leave in Wilhelmshaven. At the beginning of 1943 he reached Tunisia via Italy by ship under Allied bombardment. In May 1943 he was taken prisoner by the French. Quickly discovered and promoted as an artist by the French, supplied with paints and paper, Otto Blanck was able to leave the camp and paint without being accompanied or guarded. Many of his works were given to French officers in return. In September 1947 he came to France from Tunisia. He worked for a plantation owner in Le Pouzin in the Ardèche .

In June 1948 he was released from French captivity and returned to Wilhelmshaven. He completed his visit to the master school in Oldenburg on December 23, 1952 with the master’s examination with distinction. Since 1955 he was a member of the Association of Visual Artists (BBK) in Oldenburg and participated in many exhibitions.

In 1974 Otto Blanck retired and handed the business over to his son Klaus. This was followed by trips with his wife to Tunisia (1977), Yugoslavia (1978), Mallorca (1979), Romania (1980), Bulgaria with a Black Sea cruise that also took him to Crimea (1981) and shortly before his death to Greece (Spring 1982).
