Otto Geisler (General)

Otto Geisler (born March 17, 1930 in Šumperk ; † June 5, 2009 in Berlin ) was a German lieutenant general of the Ministry for State Security (MfS) of the GDR and head of the minister's working group .

Life

The son of a commercial clerk and a weaver attended a business school after secondary school.

After the war he was relocated to Erfurt in the Soviet occupation zone of Germany , worked as a drill and milling cutter in the Soviet company Olympia and became a member of the SED in 1946 . In 1948 he joined the German People's Police and in 1949 became a political culture instructor. In 1952 he was hired by the MfS and served in main department I (at that time responsible for the CIP ). In 1956/57 he graduated from the NVA University. In 1961 he became deputy head of department, in 1962 head of department for special tasks of the head, in 1966 deputy head of the working group of the minister's area of ​​responsibility “S” (AGM / S). He completed a distance learning course at the Humboldt University in Berlin from 1966 to 1970 as a qualified criminalist. From 1970 to 1972 he studied at the Academy of the Ministry of State Security , graduating with a diploma lawyer . There he was also awarded a Dr. jur. PhD.

In January 1980 he became head of AGM / S and on February 1, 1980 he was appointed major general by the chairman of the National Defense Council of the GDR , Erich Honecker . His promotion to lieutenant general took place on February 1, 1983. In the same year he acquired the academic degree of a diploma military scientist at the military academy Friedrich Engels of the NVA. On August 1, 1987, he resigned from his functions due to illness and retired.

He last lived in Berlin-Hellersdorf.
