Otto Georgens (born December 2, 1950 in Weisenheim am Berg ) is auxiliary bishop in the diocese of Speyer .

Life

Georgens received on 26 June 1977 in Speyer, the sacrament of Holy Orders .

Until 1986 he was secretary of the Speyer bishop Friedrich Wetter and his successor Anton Schlembach . He then became pastor in Eppenbrunn and in 1994 dean of the Pirmasens dean's office .

On 27 January 1995 it appointed Pope John Paul II. To the titular of Gubaliana and auxiliary bishop in Speyer . On March 24, 1995 he received the episcopal ordination through Anton Schlembach ; Co-consecrators were Franziskus Eisenbach , auxiliary bishop in Mainz , and Ernst Gutting , emeritus auxiliary bishop of Speyer. Three days later, on March 27, 1995, Georgens became provost of Speyer.

After Pope Benedict XVI accepted the age-related resignation of the Speyer diocesan bishop Anton Schlembach in February 2007 . the cathedral chapter of the diocese elected him diocesan administrator . Georgens held this office until Karl-Heinz Wiesemann was inaugurated as Bishop of Speyer on March 2, 2008.

On January 1, 2009, Bishop Wiesemann appointed him Episcopal Vicar for universal church tasks and for the orders, secular institutes and communities of the apostolic life.

In the German Bishops' Conference , Georgens is a member of the liturgy commission , the universal church commission and its sub-commission for development issues (especially MISEREOR) .
