Otto Heinrich Volger

Otto Heinrich Volger (born August 24, 1676 (?) In Hanover ; † August 2, 1725 there ) was mayor of Hanover from 1713 to 1725 .

Life

Coming from the Volger merchant family, known in Hanover since 1313 , Otto Heinrich was the son of an urban reed master . From 1699 he studied at the University of Jena .

After his return to Hanover in 1706 he was first secretary of the magistrate and from 1710 to 1712 held the office of Deputy Syndic. In 1713 he was elected mayor. From 1722 he was also active as a consistorial councilor. One of his most important official acts as mayor was a reform of the local school system. His tenure ended with his death in 1725.

Honors

  • A path through the Steintorfeld that already existed around 1700 was named Volgerswinkel in 1830 and Volgersweg in 1845 .
  • The Neue Volgersweg, named after the family in 1851 (previously also Volgerswinkel ) in the eastern part of the city , was renamed Gartenstraße in 1852 , according to the Hannoversche Geschichtsbl Blätter from 1914 “probably after the gardens there”.
