Otto Hess (politician, 1873)

Otto Hess (born November 9, 1873 in Kerns ; † April 22, 1962 there ) was a Swiss politician ( Catholic Conservative ).

Life

Otto Hess was born in Kerns on November 9, 1873 as the son of the baker and Rössli host Franz Josef Hess and Franziska, née Amrhein. He was a citizen of Engelberg . After attending primary school in Kerns, Hess worked in his father's bakery . Around 1905 he joined the newly created community electricity works , where he worked as an office worker and subscription collector . From 1906 to 1943 Hess acted as a member and president of its administrative commission. He was also active as an auditor from 1920 to 1922 and on the board of directors of Obwaldner Kantonalbank from 1939 to 1944 . He also delivered publications on local history .

Otto Hess, who was married to Marie, nee Röthlin, died on April 22, 1962 at the age of 88 in Kerns. He was the brother of Ignaz Hess .

Judges and politicians

From 1906 to 1911 Hess was a federal jury , from 1909 to 1912 a canton judge, from 1920 to 1921 and from 1924 to 1944 chief judge. In the years 1912–1936 Hess represented the Catholic Conservatives in the Obwalden cantonal council , which he presided over in 1914/15. To this end, he served as a government councilor between 1912 and 1920 , initially responsible for municipal affairs, and from 1914 for construction . In addition, Hess worked from 1930 to 1941 as a resident council and as mayor of Kerns.

Otto Hess was considered a combative, straightforward and purposeful Catholic-conservative politician.
