Otto Lang (actor)
Otto Lang (born August 24, 1906 in Frankfurt am Main ; † June 24, 1984 in Weimar ) was a German actor and university professor.
Life
Lang, the son of a gardener, studied at the Frankfurt drama school from 1924 to 1926 , then had engagements in Remscheid , Herford , Frankfurt am Main and Bamberg . In 1933 he joined the NSDAP . From 1934 to 1939 he worked in Hildesheim and then became game director in Gleiwitz .
After 1945 he became a member of the KPD / SED and from 1947 taught at the German Theater Institute in Weimar . From 1951 he was a member of the State Commission for Art Affairs . From 1953 to 1958 he was rector of the Leipzig Theater Academy . From 1958 to June 1973 he was general manager of the German National Theater in Weimar . From 1958 he was a member and from 1963 to April 1973 Vice President of the German Shakespeare Society . At times he was a member of the Erfurt district assembly .
Lang was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in bronze in 1966 and in silver in 1971. Lang died in Weimar at the age of 77.
