Otto Schneidereit
Otto Schneidereit (born January 4, 1915 in Berlin , † November 30, 1978 in Leipzig ) was a German director , dramaturge and music writer with a focus on operetta .
Life
Schneidereit was the leading specialist in high-quality light music and operetta in the GDR . He also worked as a director for the DFF - in collaboration with Helmut Spieß and others . As head dramaturge of the Metropoltheater Berlin for many years , he influenced the development of the cheerful musical theater of socialist character in the transition between operetta and musical. With his research and positions he was decisive for the reception of the operetta in western Central Europe. He was decisively involved in the artistic, aesthetic and political discourses on the genres in the GDR, e. B. in the magazines Theater der Zeit and Theaterdienst.
He edited z. B. the operettas Fatinitza by Franz von Suppè and The Grand Duchess of Gerolstein by Jacques Offenbach . His production of Der Zigeunerbaron at the Dresden State Operetta (1952) was a decisive step towards the acceptance of this operetta in the GDR.
His operetta guide, published in numerous editions (1955 to 1986), mirrors the history of the genre and reception of operettas in the GDR.
