Otto Steinwachs

Otto Steinwachs (born August 19, 1882 in Offenbach am Main , † October 13, 1977 in Neckargemünd ) was auxiliary bishop of the Old Catholic Church in Germany .

Life

Steinwachs was born in 1882 as the son of the first Old Catholic pastor of Offenbach, Adam Josef Steinwachs. In 1901 he began studying Old Catholic theology in Bonn . He was ordained priest in 1904 by Bishop Theodor Weber . He then became vicar in Munich , where he also wrote his doctoral thesis for Dr. phil. completed.

In 1908 Steinwachs became pastor in Augsburg . From 1911 to 1951 he worked as a pastor in Mannheim . In 1943 he briefly represented the pastor of Freiburg im Breisgau during his military service until the reoccupation on October 25, 1943. After the Second World War, he was appointed auxiliary bishop in 1946. He was ordained bishop in Utrecht in 1947 by the Archbishop of Utrecht Andreas Rinkel ; Co-consecrators were the bishops of Haarlem and Deventer, Jacob van der Oord and Engelbertus Lagerwey . Steinwachs was vicar general from 1950 to 1953 .

From 1934 to 1964, Steinwachs was dean and president of the regional synodal council. In 1963 he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit, 1st class.

He was married to Else Gutjahr and had two sons who died in the war and a daughter. The Otto-Steinwachs-Weg in Offenbach was named after him.
