Otto Zink (born October 31, 1925 in Rüsselsheim ; † May 9, 2008 ) was a German trade unionist and politician ( CDU ).

Life

Zink was born the son of a businessman. After attending elementary school, he began an apprenticeship in toolmaking at Adam Opel AG in 1940 , which he completed in 1943 with the skilled worker examination. He joined the NSDAP on April 20, 1943 at the age of 17 ( membership number 9.376.453). He did Reich labor service since 1943 , was then drafted into the Wehrmacht and took part in World War II as a soldier . He was most recently taken prisoner, from which he was released in 1947.

Afterwards, Zink worked again at Adam Opel AG, from 1947 to 1953 as a toolmaker and since 1961 as a technical employee. He joined the union, was elected to the plant's youth representatives in 1948 and was its chairman until 1951. From 1951 to 1961 he was a member of the works council, and since 1953 of the works committee. During this time he worked as a clerk for vocational training and youth issues. From 1959 to 1965 and from 1972 to 1974 he was an employee representative on the economic committee of Adam Opel AG. As such, he was a member of the company's supervisory board since May 1965. He also took on honorary functions in IG Metall and the DGB . In 1991 he acted as federal election commissioner for the social elections .

Zink joined the Junge Union in 1951 and joined the CDU in 1953. He was elected to the state executive committee and was deputy state chairman of the CDU Hessen from 1967 to 1992 . In addition, he was state chairman of the Hessian CDA from 1961 to 1985 . Since 1991 he has been an honorary member of the CDA federal board.

From 1956 to 1981 he was a councilor for the city of Rüsselsheim. From 1962 until his resignation on October 18, 1965, he was a member of the Hessian state parliament . He was a member of the German Bundestag from 1965 to 1990. He was first drawn into parliament via the state list of Hesse and represented the Groß-Gerau constituency there from 1983 to 1990 . From September 9, 1981 to 1987 he was deputy chairman of the Bundestag committee for labor and social affairs and from 1982 to 1987 chairman of the workers' group of the CDU / CSU parliamentary group .

Zink was awarded the Wilhelm Leuschner Medal and the Great Federal Cross of Merit.
