Ottomar Beta

Ottomar Heinrich Beta (actually Bettziech) (born February 7, 1845 in Berlin , † February 20, 1913 in Steglitz ) German journalist , writer and ethnic anti-Semite . He also published under the pseudonyms Mann aus dem Monde , Aron Halmlos , Caduceus and Maltus II.

Life

Ottomar Beta was born as the son of the journalist Heinrich Beta and his wife Aug. Carol. Wilh. Franziska Thebesius (1817–1848) was born in Berlin. His father emigrated to London in 1849. His stepmother was Mathilde Beta, geb. Rolf. His stepsister Clara Beta (* 1850) was later a teacher in Berlin.

He was raised in Stettin by his uncle and in 1857 traveled to his father in London . After the general amnesty in 1861 when Wilhelm I of Prussia came to power , he returned. He attended the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Gymnasium in Berlin from 1861 to 1863 , but without attaining the Abitur . Afterwards he was an inspector on agricultural goods. He tried to study agronomy in Halle and Leipzig , but here too without a degree.

He tried his hand at writing novels, comedies and short stories. But its real purpose was the social question. In various writings he made the Jews responsible for the consequences of industrialization and the effects of Roman law. He changed publishers frequently. However, he was not organized in any political party, the only known thing is that he gave a lecture at the congress of the German Social Reform Party (1902). He was a member of the "German-Völkisch Writers' Union" in Berlin-Charlottenburg. In 1934 he was celebrated as an early pioneer of the National Socialist land policy.
