After completing his apprenticeship as a baker , he opened an antique shop in Berlin-Schöneberg . In the mid-1970s he met 96-year-old Princess Ekaterina Olympia Caradja , née Kretzulesco, who had remained childless and who was the sister-in-law of the last blood relatives of the legendary Prince Dracula from Transylvania . She adopted him in 1987 in Bucharest to ensure the continued existence of the noble family. Kretzulesco later said that she adopted him because he looked " Romanian enough".
In 1995 he bought the 16,000 m² area with Schenkendorf Castle with 46 rooms. Here he organized knight festivals, classical concerts and other activities. With the German Red Cross , he organized “blood donation parties” in order to replenish the blood reserves in the Brandenburg clinics. A small museum was set up. In 2006 he had to vacate the castle for financial reasons and in 2009 it was foreclosed. Kretzulesco moved to Königs Wusterhausen with his wife Janett (* 1981) and their son Ottomar, who was born on December 11, 2006 .
In name litigation over "Dracula drinks" and "Castle of Dracula" he lost.
Prince Kretzulesco appeared as a guest singer on the album Mille Anni Passi Sunt by the medieval band Corvus Corax , which was released in 2000 .
The municipal reform initiated by Jörg Schönbohm went far too far for him, and in 2002 he proclaimed the "Principality of Dracula". Because according to the reform, Schenkendorf should be incorporated into the city of Mittenwalde . As a result, a battle of words between Schönbohm and Kretzulesco arose through the media. The reform took place a year later. In 2003 he joined the FDP and won a seat in the district council of the Dahme-Spreewald district in the local elections .
Successor as Prince Kretzulescu and "Dracula" heir is his son Ottomar junior called Otti .
