Pîremêrd

Pîremêrd (* 1867 with Silemani ; † June 15, 1950 ibid; full name Tawfeq Mahmoud Hamza ) was a Kurdish poet and writer.

Life

Pîremêrd came from a prominent Kurdish family. His grandfather was a minister in the Kurdish principality of Baban, which was administratively autonomous until 1850 .

Pîremêrd studied Arabic and the Muslim law Fiqh in Silemani and Baneh , which is in Iran . From 1882 to 1895 he worked in the authorities of various cities such as Silemani, Halabdscha and Scharbazher ( Şarbajêr ). In 1898 he went to Istanbul at the personal invitation of the Ottoman Sultan Abdülhamid II . He received the title of Bey . After a year in Istanbul, he made a pilgrimage to Mecca . As a pilgrim he also obtained the title of Hajji , so that from then on he was called Hajji Twafeq Bey . On his pilgrimage he met the Kurdish poet Wefayi . In 1899 Pîremêrd became a member of the Ottoman Parliament and a member of the Istanbul School of Law.

In 1907 he became a member of the Kurdish organization Komela Kurd . Between 1909 and 1923 he was Kaymakam (district administrator) in various districts such as Hakkâri , Qeremursil, Balawa, Beytüşşebap in Şırnak , Gümüşköy, Adapazarı in Sakarya and Amasya .

After the First World War he returned to Silemani via Baghdad in 1925 . In 1926 he became the editor of the Kurdish newspaper Jîyan (Life) and in 1932 its director. In 1938 he renamed the newspaper Jîn and published it until 1950. In addition, he was one of the founders of the first Kurdish private school in what is now northern Iraq , the so-called “Qutabxaney Zanistî” (“Scientific School”).

Pîremêrd's activities as a journalist and publisher played a major role in consolidating the Kurdish language.
