Płomjo
Płomjo ([ pwɔmjo ], German: the flame ) is the only Upper Sorbian children's magazine . Like its counterpart in Lower Sorbian, Płomje, it is published by the Witaj Language Center and is published by Domowina-Verlag .
history
German Empire and Weimar Republic
As early as 1906 to 1914 and now from 1923 to 1930, a religious Sorbian-language children's magazine with the name Raj (Paradise) was published.
GDR
From 1952 Płomjo appeared twice a month, from 1955 Płomje once a month. From 1952 to 1955 the journal was published by the FDJ district management in Dresden, and from 1955 by the FDJ central council. It comprised 24 pages per issue, 8 of which were multi-color offset printing . Until the fall of the Berlin Wall , it was a children's and pioneer magazine for Sorbian and Sorbian-learning children. In 1960 both magazines had 6,000 subscribers and were read by 2,000 students in 49 schools. In 1972 the magazines received the Ćišinski Prize, 1st class.
content
The content was contributions and materials on history, Sorbian and local history lessons and on the history and culture of the Sorbs. Reports, stories, fairy tales, poems, songs, articles on sports, technology and science, puzzles, humor, games, handicrafts and other supplements.
today
Today it appears monthly and is aimed at children with a Sorbian mother tongue, but also at those who are B. visit the Witaj kindergartens or Witaj classes and thus learn the Sorbian language, as there is usually a small vocabulary aid to the texts. The magazines are published by the WITAJ language center, where the editorial offices are also located, and are published by Domowina-Verlag GmbH Bautzen. The booklet in Lower Sorbian has a length of 32 pages. The booklet in Upper Sorbian appears with 40 pages in A5 format.
The circulation of Płomjo in 2004 was 1,600, while that of Płomje was 850.
