Padeş is a municipality in Gorj County in Wallachia in Romania . The seat of the municipality is Călugăreni .
Geographical location
Padeș is a municipality on the upper reaches of the Motru - a right tributary of the Jiu ( Schil ) - in the southern foothills of the Transylvanian Alps between the Mehedinți and Vâlcan mountain ranges , in the historical region of Little Wallachia , also called Oltenia . In the north-west of the Gorj County, the place is on the county road ( Drum județean ) DJ 671, 12 kilometers north of the small town of Baia de Aramă ( Kr. Mehedinți ); the district capital Târgu Jiu is located about 50 kilometers east of Pades.
history
In the area of the municipality, south of the village of Călugăreni, finds of a settlement - called Peştera (English cave ) by the locals - which point to the Early Bronze Age , were made.
population
In 2002, 5160 people were registered in the municipality of Muereasca. 5158 of them were Romanians and two were Magyars . In the October 31, 2011 census, there were 5002 people in 2102 households in the municipality.
The main occupation of the population is forestry.
Attractions
- The wooden church Înălțarea Domnului ?? , Built in 1790 in the incorporated village of Cloșani , is a listed building.
- The church of Sf. Atanasia și Chiril ?? , Built in 1883 and the house of the Constantin Nacu family in Padeș in the 19th century, are listed buildings.
- The monument to the uprising of 1821 ( ⊙ ) under the leadership of Tudor Vladimirescu , erected 1921–1935, is a listed building.
- The community is also the starting point for several caves in the region.
