Pablo Montes Casanova (born November 23, 1945 in Havana ; † October 26, 2008 there ) was a Cuban sprinter .

At the Pan-American Games in Winnipeg in 1967 , he made his breakthrough to the top of the world. In 21.0 s he won the bronze medal in the 200-meter run behind the Americans John Carlos and Jerry Bright , over 400 meters he finished sixth. With the Cuban relay he won the silver medal behind the US relay.

The following year he was fourth in the 100-meter run in 10.14 s behind Jim Hines , Lennox Miller and Charles Greene at the Olympic Games in Mexico City . In the 4 x 100 meter relay , the Jamaicans around Lennox Miller had improved the world record to 38.39 s in the semifinals. In the final, the Americans around Greene and Hines won in the world record time of 38.24 seconds, and the Cubans with Hermes Ramírez , Juan Morales , Montes and Enrique Figuerola finished second in 38.40 seconds ahead of the French and Jamaicans .

Montes celebrated his greatest success at the Central American and Caribbean Games in Panama in 1970 , when he won over 100 meters, 200 meters and gold in the relay. In 1971 he received bronze on both sprint routes at the Central America and Caribbean Championships. At the Pan American Games in 1971 , he finished fourth over 100 meters and won silver in the relay. During his second Olympic participation in Munich in 1972 , Montes only took part in the relay, which was eliminated in the semifinals. In 1975 he won another season silver at the Pan American Games, for the third time in a row.

Pablo Montes is 1.84 meters tall and weighed 83 kg during his playing days. After his career he became a sports official and was most recently responsible for senior sports in the Cuban Athletics Association.
