The Ryndam was built under hull number 5883 in the Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone and was launched on November 1, 1993. After delivery to the Holland-America Line on September 9, 1994, she set off on her maiden voyage on October 20, 1994. The ship belongs to the Statendam class, which consists of a total of four units , which is also known as the S class.
After 20 years of service for Holland America, the transfer of the Ryndam to P&O Cruises Australia was announced in May 2014 . After the 2015 cruise season, the ship went to the Sembcorp Marine shipyard in Singapore for renovation work in October 2015 . On November 25, 2015, the official christening took place under the new name Pacific Aria in Sydney .
The ship was to be taken over by Cruise & Maritime Voyages in May 2021 and, as Ida Pfeiffer, would replace Astor at the Transocean Kreuzfahrten subsidiary . However, Cruise & Maritime Voyages filed for bankruptcy in July 2020.
