Painkiller Jane is an American action series with mystery elements from 2007. It is based on the comic of the same name . The production of the series was discontinued after a season.

action

Jane Vasco is an investigator for the DEA along with her partner Maureen Bowers . When she comes across government agent Andre McBride during an investigation, she is lured away by him. She joins a mysterious state secret agency that hunts people with neurological abnormalities. These so-called “neuros” can do unimaginable things with their mental powers. The team, whose headquarters is located in a disused subway station , gives these people a chip that paralyzes their skills. The subjects are then taken to an internment camp called NICO. On her first assignment, Jane fell 46 stories - and survived. Jane has the ability to heal any harm done to her. A skill that gives your team tremendous advantages over the “neuros”.

In the course of the series, Jane finds out that the Vonotek group was involved in the creation of the Neuros. The group's goal is to create “improved” people. She is hypnotized and is supposed to free the prisoners of the NICO camp in Budapest . Andre and his team manage to free them from Vonotek's influence. She is now to be used as a double agent . The last scene of the season shows a fitness bar that is supposed to transmit the neurovirus.

Characters

main characters

Jane Vasco

Jane Vasco (played by Kristanna Loken ), ex-DEA investigator, not only has the ability to heal all injuries, but in the course of the series her IQ increases beyond normal levels. Vasco is impulsive and trusts her emotions. Again and again she defies instructions and goes her own unconventional way.

Andre McBride

Andre McBride (played by Rob Stewart ) is the leader of the team and is responsible to only one manager. He demands the impossible from his subordinates, but also unconditionally stands up for them. Little is known about his past, the only thing certain is that he was in the Vietnam War .

Connor King

Connor King (played by Noah Danby ) is the team's weapons and hand-to-hand combat expert. He is aloof and loosening up with his partly cynical, partly obscene comments. Riley Jensen

Riley Jensen (played by Sean O. Roberts ) is the team's computer expert and prides himself on being able to hack into every database on the planet . Maureen Bowers

Maureen Bowers (played by Alaina Kalanj ), Jane's former colleague, also joins the team immediately after Jane's supposed death. In contrast to her best friend and partner, she usually acts according to the regulations. She is a good investigator and also masters some hand-to-hand combat techniques. Maureen is shot dead during a mission.

Seth Carpenter

Seth Carpenter (played by Stephen Lobo ) is the team's medic. He takes care of the injuries of the team members as well as the production of the chips. As a neuro-expert, he has the most knowledge of the mysterious powers of any team member. Similar to Riley, he has nerdy features and usually speaks in hard-to-understand medical gibberish.

Simon Conelly
is a neuro who has the skills to manipulate another person's memory at will. For example, withdrawing knowledge from him and transferring it to himself. He forces the team to take possession of a painting. Since he is terminally ill with cancer , Andre does not chip him. Towards the end of his life he gives Jane a number of his stolen memories, which should help her to discover the secret of her powers. Simon Conelly is played by Christopher Britton .

background

The series is based on a comic book from the Event Comics publishing company and a television film of the same name . Although the two comic book writers Jimmy Palmiotti and Joe Quesada were involved in the script, the series tells a new story.

The SciFi-Channel initially commissioned a film for their program. Since the film, which only has the basic plot in common with the actual series, ran satisfactorily, SciFi commissioned the series. The two comic book authors were allowed to write the script, the Canadian company Starz-Channel took care of the production.

Most episodes were in the Canadian Maple Ridge and in the Lower Mainland in British Columbia turned. The four-part finale of the series was in Budapest ( Hungary filmed). In August 2007, the SciFi-Channel decided not to commission another season, but to finish shooting the first season. The last episode became the series finale.

The German-language first broadcast started on January 12, 2009 on the pay TV channel SciFi . For the first time on free TV, the series ran from March 5, 2009 on each Thursday evening on Tele 5 .
