Painkiller Jane is an American science fiction - action thriller from the year 2005 . Directed by Sanford Bookstaver , the script was written by John Harrison and Don Keith Opper based on the comic books of the same name by Joe Quesada and Jimmy Palmiotti .

Captain Jane Browning is on a mission in Russia where she comes into contact with a biological weapon. As the only survivor of the Sonderkommando Painkiller Unit , she develops supernatural powers. The Army examines her in a laboratory, from which she escapes.
Browning learns from his friend Colonel Watts that the biological weapon was developed by the terrorist Peter Erfan and goes on a search for him. There she meets Lucas Insley, a member of the military intelligence service. He explains that Erfan is just an alias under which Colonel Watts operates - and that he is investigating him himself.
Later it turns out that Insley is not the wanted terrorist, but Watts. Browning and Insley fight in a helicopter from which they fall into the water. Browning is later provided with money and a new identity by Watts. Insley, who has the same skills as Browning, continues to operate.

The magazine TV Spielfilm 5/2008 wrote that the film was "painful nonsense".
