history

Diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Turkey began after Pakistan's independence in 1947. Both countries were able to intensify their relations thanks to cultural, religious and geopolitical connections. The founder of the Pakistani state, Muhammad Ali Jinnah, wanted to build Pakistan according to the model of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk after modernism. The state of Pakistan should become a modern Islamic state in the imagination of Jinnah and Allama Iqbal . Pervez Musharraf shared the same view. An important main street in Ankara is named after Jinnah. Various streets in Pakistan are named after Ataturk. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan was awarded the Nishan-e-Pakistan and was the fourth head of state to give a speech in the Pakistani parliament .

Cultural relations

The cultures of Pakistan and Turkey are closely related to the Arab, Greek and Persian cultures. The region around Anatolia was occupied by the Persians in antiquity and thus experienced a cultural and linguistic influence of the Persians. The region around the Indus was founded in the 5th century BC. Occupied by the Achaemenid Empire . Today's Turkey was home to many European civilizations. The ancient Greeks left a cultural influence in Turkey. This includes Greek buildings in Turkey. Pakistan is also influenced by the Greeks, especially after the invasion by Alexander the Great . The invasion led to the formation of the Indo-Greek Empire with its main focus in Gandhara . Turkey became Turkish-speaking through the occupation of the Seljuks. Pakistan's national language , Urdu , was influenced to a large extent by the Chagata language . Urdu therefore has many loan words from Turkish. The cultural influence on Pakistan and Turkey can still be traced back to the rule of the Turks and Persians in South Asia and the Near East. Both countries practice Sunni Hanafi Islam .
