The Palais Dietrichstein is a former Graz city palace in Burggasse in the Innere Stadt district .

history

The original owners of the palace were the noble family of the Counts of Herberstein and then the Counts of Galler. From 1635 to 1803 it was owned by the Dietrichstein family , who gave the palace its current name, until it belonged to Franz Xaver von Fraidenegg and his heirs in 1827, and from 1879 to the Conrad family.

Architecture and design

The core of the Palais Dietrichstein dates from the third quarter of the 16th century. The three-storey complex was rebuilt in 1785 according to the plans of the builder Joseph Hueber . The staircase with its stucco ceiling and the stair gate, which, like the hallway, was built between 1770 and 1775 and shows the transition between Rococo and Classicism , is well worth seeing . The large hall on the third floor with its barrel vault with Secco paintings depicting scenes from Ovid's Metamorphoses show and Franz Stainpichler be attributed decorated. In addition, a rich stucco decoration in foliage , ribbon and latticework style can be found in the room.
