Pancratius Caprez

Pancratius Caprez (* around 1625 in Trin ; † 1704 in Maienfeld ) was a Swiss Reformed pastor . He is particularly important because of the theological pamphlet "Anti-Georgius" which he wrote, which deals with the question of the existence of purgatory . Furthermore, his funeral sermons are an important genealogical source.

Life

Pancratius Caprez was born around 1625 in Trin in the Swiss canton of Graubünden . In 1647/1648 he studied Protestant theology at the University of Basel . On June 3, 1648, he was accepted into the Evangelical-Rhaetian Synod in Splügen . The right in the This involved three frets to work as a pastor.

Caprez then became pastor in Sils im Domleschg , where he stayed until 1654. The year before, he was expelled from the synod because he was accused of contact with the convert Johann Schorsch , who had converted to the Catholic Church . In 1654 Caprez became pastor in Zizers ; In 1655 he also took over the provisional supply in the neighboring municipality of Untervaz .
