Pan-Europe working group
The Paneuropean Working Group in the European Parliament was founded in 1985 by Otto von Habsburg as President of the International Paneuropean Union , the oldest European unification movement, and assembled as its parliamentary group, members who are committed to Richard Coudenhove-Kalergi's pan-European idea . Already after the end of the First World War he formulated the vision of a Europe united in freedom, law and peace . The pan-European motto in necessariis unitas, in dubiis libertas, in omnibus caritas reflects the working group's claim to uphold Christian and occidental values.
The Austrian MEP Paul Rübig has been chairman of the working group since 2009 , after having been deputy chairman until then. Since the working group was founded, MEPs Nicolas Estgen , Leo Tindemans (1994–1999) and Ingo Friedrich (1999–2009) have chaired it .
activities
Once a month, on the Tuesday of the Strasbourg plenary week of the European Parliament, high-ranking personalities from politics, business, church and culture speak in front of the working group in the European Parliament . The self-imposed goal is the networking of MEPs from different ideological groups, the exchange of opinions, the discussion and the finding of solutions to the problems of a united Europe in a globalized world. There are also occasional events in Brussels . All Members, assistants and other employees of the European Parliament, as well as numerous other interested personalities are invited. The individual meetings are interpreted into the three parliamentary working languages, namely English, German and French.
