Paola Caselli

Paola Caselli (born July 26, 1966 in Follonica ) is an Italian astrophysicist . Since 2014 she has been director at the Max Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics in Garching near Munich .

Act

Caselli studied physics and astronomy at the University of Bologna and then did a Ph.D. on the "Non-thermal broadening of molecular lines and chemical processes in star formation regions" and spent a guest semester at Ohio State University . After positions as a fellow and visiting scholar at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics , Cambridge University , the University of Leeds , the University of California at Berkeley and Harvard University , she has been professor of astronomy since 2007 and was head of the astrophysics group at the from 2009 to 2011 University of Leeds. She has been an honorary professor at the University of Florida since 2012 and an honorary professor at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich since 2014 .

Caselli researches the formation of stars and planets , astrochemistry and molecular spectroscopy . She has been a Scientific Member of the Max Planck Society and Director at the Max Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics since 2014 .
